Oh my…it’s fruitcake weather!
Adapted from the stories Truman Capote regarded as his greatest works of short fiction, Holiday Memories recalls Capote’s 1930’s Southern boyhood. One of America’s finest memoirists, the author weaves a mesmerizing blend of youthful sensitivity and adult recollection in this loving tribute to his old-maid cousin and “best friend,” Miss Sook, and the simple circumstances of their lives that allowed their imaginations to roam free. In the play, young Buddy has an eventful Christmas as Sook leads him and their dog Queenie on the kinds of adventures a child will always remember, including baking 31 fruitcakes as gifts for everyone they can think of, such as Eleanor and Franklin Roosevelt! Charming, hilarious, touchingly moving, this modern-day classic tale will warm the hearts of all your family, and deepen the meaning of beloved holiday rituals. Featuring original country Christmas music composed by Drew Perkins for this production.
“Capote, in a bright, fluttering, wheeling way, makes all the tinsel and confetti and embroidery that bind together such delicate emotions come vigorously to life.” The New Yorker, editorial review.
